Position Summary:
The Helper is able to organize, control, and prioritize their area of responsibility and carry out tasks to completion within established timelines while abiding by all Vicwest health and safety rules. Reporting to the Production Manager, this role provides support to production operations within the Saskatoon facility. Helpers assist with a variety of manufacturing activities and may specialize in either crate construction or production support involving the operation of mobile equipment. They provide assistance to Machine Operators and other production team members as required.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Production Support & Operational Assistance: Assist with daily production activities to support the efficient flow of work throughout the plant, ensuring production requirements are met safely and effectively
2. Health Safety & Workplace Compliance: Maintain a safe and clean working environment by following all Vicwest health and safety rules, using tools and equipment safely, and adhering to established work procedures.
3. Team Collaboration & Operational Flexibility: Work closely with co-workers and supervisors to complete tasks, support production processes, and adapt to changing priorities and assignments as required.
Major Responsibilities
· Assisting in production processes.
· Helping Machine Operators and other production employees when required.
· Maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
· Collaborating with and assisting co-workers.
· Demonstrating a strong ability to self-manage and work independently.
· Using a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
· Following all Vicwest health and safety policies and procedures.
· Performing other duties throughout the plant, as required.
· Assisting production teams through the safe operation of mobile equipment used within the manufacturing environment.
· Operating forklifts and other approved equipment to support production activities.
· Conducting pre-use inspections and reporting equipment concerns.
· Supporting production set-ups, housekeeping activities, and operational requirements.
· Working safely in active production areas and confined spaces while maintaining awareness of surrounding personnel and equipment.
· Assisting with various plant duties as operational needs require.
Qualifications
· Experience in a plant or manufacturing environment considered an asset.
· Experience operating forklifts considered an asset.
· Forklift certification considered an asset.
· Experience operating counterbalance forklifts, Combilifts, scissor lifts, or similar equipment considered an asset.
· Flexibility and adaptability to work on a wide variety of tasks.
· Strong safety awareness and sound judgment.
· Ability to lift 50+ lbs.
· Experience in a plant position considered an asset.
· Experience with hand and air tools.
· Flexibility and adaptability to work on a wide variety of tasks.
· Flexibility to work varied shifts.
· Strong communication and teamwork skills.
· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
