K2 / K3 Line Cook / Kitchen Helper
Fortune Katsu is a Japanese tonkatsu restaurant located near Metrotown in Burnaby. We are currently hiring K2 / K3 kitchen staff to support set meal plating, order checking, service coordination, food preparation, and daily kitchen operations.
The specific position will be assigned based on the applicant’s previous kitchen experience, ability, and on-the-job performance. The K2 position focuses more on order handling, plating, and service coordination, while the K3 position focuses more on basic food preparation, restocking, and assisting with service.
Key Responsibilities
Depending on the assigned position, responsibilities may include:
K2: Set Meal Plating / Order Checking / Service Coordination
- Prepare pork cutlets, chicken cutlets, shrimp, and other main ingredients for service
- Review, organize, and confirm orders for each table
- Plate set meals, including rice, main dishes, side dishes, sauces, and small accompaniments
- Check orders carefully to prevent missing, incorrect, or duplicate items
- Handle multiple orders at the same time and organize plating and service priorities
- Coordinate with K1, K3, and front-of-house staff to maintain smooth service
- Maintain accuracy, organization, and proper service flow during busy periods
- Clean, restock, and complete closing duties for the plating station
K3: Food Preparation / Basic Kitchen Production
- Cook rice and prepare miso soup, shredded cabbage, and other basic food items
- Prepare side dishes, sauces, condiments, and daily service supplies
- Check and restock ingredients, seasonings, and kitchen supplies during service
- Assist K2 with set meal plating, order preparation, and service
- Work with K1 and K2 to support the overall kitchen workflow
- Complete basic kitchen cleaning, organization, and closing duties
- Keep workstations, refrigerators, storage areas, and the kitchen clean and organized
Requirements
- Previous experience in a restaurant kitchen, commercial kitchen, line cook, or kitchen helper position is preferred
- Able to read and understand orders and accurately confirm all required items
- Detail-oriented, organized, and careful when completing tasks
- Quick to respond and able to handle multiple tasks and orders at the same time
- Able to remain calm and work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Willing to follow standardized restaurant procedures and position requirements
- Good teamwork and communication skills
- Punctual, reliable, responsible, and dependable
- Clean and efficient working habits
- Able to stand for extended periods and perform general kitchen duties
- Available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Candidates interested in long-term, stable employment are preferred
- FoodSafe certification is an asset
Training and Position Assignment
The K2 or K3 position will be assigned based on the applicant’s previous kitchen experience and demonstrated ability.
Training will be provided on restaurant procedures, menu items, plating standards, and service flow. Employees who become proficient in K3 preparation duties and demonstrate strong performance may have the opportunity to learn K2 order checking, plating, and service coordination.
