Purpose
Leads and oversees Accounting Team in Canada ensuring business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. Responsible for the delivery of process innovation and continuous improvement initiatives across multi-jurisdictions and play an important role in helping foster a culture of sustainable change

What you will be doing

Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
Review and understand the current Trade Finance Operational and Accounting processes and identify gaps in accounting processes and controls.
Implement accounting process improvement & accounting controls to mitigate risk
Review and improve daily and monthly reporting. Develop reporting as required
Responsible for escalation of long outstanding items.
Identify unreconciled position in GLs.
Document accurately trade finance & supply chain finance accounting processes in the Standard Operating Practice, as and when updated.
Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment, communicating vison/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team
Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

What you bring
• University Undergraduate Degree in Finance or business-related studies or equivalent.

Strong working knowledge of Bank’s AML and Compliance policies
Advance computer skills, particularly MS Office Suite - Excel, Access, Word, Power Point, etc.

Working Conditions
• Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
