About the Position:
This position is on the night shift (10:50PM to 6:50AM), however training will take place on days (6:50AM to 2:50PM) and could last up to three months.
The Secondary Operator (SO) uses secondary processing steps by-way of production materials in the manufacturing of technically advanced, specialty materials and complex components in the cold-forming industry. Safety shoes, hearing protection, safety glasses, and a high-visibility vest are mandatory PPE in the plant.
Main Responsibilities & Duties:
- Set up and operate tapping, distortion, thread rolling, and other secondary processing equipment.
- Tap, distort, and thread roll various products according to engineering prints and specifications.
- Inspect parts and complete required quality documentation, including Statistical Process Control (SPC) record
- Operate stover, tapping, toplock, threadroller, and wheelnut machines
- Perform minor preventative maintenance (check oil levels, warn fasteners, etc)
- Load and unload bins on machines.
- Weigh finished products and accurately record production information.
- Perform changeovers as required.
- Troubleshoot machine as required.
- Clean out machine and top up fluid levels as required.
- Keep feed system full, gauge nuts before emptying/releasing catch pans.
- Report all non-conforming products to Superintendent or Lead Hand.
- Report any machine malfunction to Superintendent or Lead Hand.
Required Qualifications:
- Valid forklift certification is required.
- Minimum 2 years experience inoperating, setting up and basic troubleshooting of production/industrial equipment (preference to candidates already proficient in at least one Secondary application (i.e. Tapping, Distortion, Threadrolling).
- Mechanical aptitude and the ability to identify and resolve minor equipment issues.
- Ability to use gauges and measuring equipment (including thread, dial, plug, TIR, and Johnson gauges, verneers, micrometers, microscope, etc.)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and engineering prints.
- Basic computer skills, including data entry and reviewing production or equipment information..
- Perform basic preventative maintenance to ensure machine, fluids, etc. are functioning properly (e.g. lubricant levels)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identity defective parts
- Reasonable oral and written communication skills to follow instruction, complete/input documentation and pass information to Superintendent or Lead Hand.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating secondary processing equipment (tapping, distortion, thread rolling, etc).
- Familiarity with safety devices and procedures
- Experience in a fast-paces manufacturing/automotive environment
