We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer (Water/Wastewater) to join our Canadian Electrical & Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) team in Calgary . In this role, you will provide technical leadership, project delivery oversight, and subject matter expertise for the planning, design, and execution of electrical systems for municipal and industrial water and wastewater facilities, as well as other infrastructure and building projects.
You will lead the design development, evaluation, recommendation, and specification of engineered electrical systems including medium-voltage power distribution up to 25kV, low-voltage distribution systems, motor control centers, standby and emergency power generation systems, grounding and lightning protection systems, lighting and controls, telecommunications and security infrastructure, fire alarm systems, and process electrical systems. Project types will primarily include water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, and related infrastructure, while also supporting transportation, industrial, commercial, institutional, and municipal projects.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead electrical design and engineering activities for complex water and wastewater treatment projects from conceptual planning through detailed design and construction support.
Serve as Electrical Discipline Lead on multidisciplinary projects, coordinating with project managers, clients, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior and intermediate electrical engineers, designers, and drafters.
Review and approve electrical calculations, equipment selections, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
Lead the development of electrical system studies, including load flow, short circuit, arc flash, and protective device coordination analyses.
Prepare and review technical specifications, construction documents, bid packages, and engineering reports.
Provide quality assurance and quality control reviews to ensure compliance with project requirements, codes, standards, and company procedures.
Coordinate design integration with process, mechanical, structural, civil, and instrumentation/control disciplines.
Support business development activities, including proposal preparation, scope development, budgeting, and client presentations.
Participate in client meetings and act as a trusted technical advisor for electrical systems in water and wastewater facilities.
Support construction services activities, including shop drawing reviews, site inspections, responses to RFIs, commissioning support, and startup assistance.
Establish and maintain project-specific CAD/Revit standards, drawing quality procedures, and engineering best practices.
Identify opportunities for innovation, continuous improvement, and efficient project delivery.
Here's what you'll need
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering.
Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta or eligible for registration.
Minimum 10 years of electrical engineering experience in a consulting or engineering design environment.
Minimum 8 years of experience designing building and infrastructure electrical systems in Canada.
Minimum 5 years of experience leading electrical design for water and wastewater treatment facilities in Canada.
Demonstrated experience serving as a technical lead or discipline lead on multidisciplinary projects.
Strong knowledge and application of Canadian Electrical Code (CEC), National Building Code of Canada (NBCC), CSA standards, IEEE standards, NFPA standards, and applicable provincial regulations.
Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage clients and project stakeholders.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage priorities, and deliver high-quality work within project schedules and budgets.
Forward-thinking, innovative, and committed to continuous learning and professional development.
Proven ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Ideally, You'll Also Have:
Advanced proficiency in electrical system analysis software such as ETAP, SKM PowerTools, or EasyPower.
Strong working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD, and BIM project delivery methodologies.
Experience performing arc flash, coordination, load flow, and power quality studies.
Experience with Commissioning and Startup support for water and wastewater facilities.
LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), LEED Green Associate, or ISI Envision certification.
Experience delivering large municipal infrastructure programs and design-build projects.
Knowledge of instrumentation and control systems, including SCADA integration within water and wastewater treatment facilities.
Project management experience and familiarity with EPCM and alternative delivery models.
