We are currently seeking a qualified 4th Class Power Engineer – Maintenance to join our team at our Richmond facility on Mitchell Island.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the 4th Class Power Engineer will be responsible for the safe operation, monitoring and maintenance of the plant’s boiler systems and related mechanical equipment.
The successful candidate will also support preventative maintenance, equipment inspections, troubleshooting and general repairs throughout the facility. This position requires someone who can work independently and collaboratively while maintaining strong safety, quality and operational standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate, monitor and inspect the plant’s high-pressure boiler and related systems.
- Complete required operating logs, readings, inspections and documentation.
- Perform daily pre-operational inspections and identify equipment requiring repair or maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and assist with repairs to mechanical, electrical, boiler and refrigeration systems.
- Complete preventative maintenance activities according to established schedules.
- Respond to equipment failures and operational concerns in a timely manner.
- Use power tools, hand tools and maintenance equipment safely and effectively.
- Support maintenance projects assigned by the Maintenance Manager, Supervisor or Maintenance Leads.
- Communicate equipment issues, safety concerns and repair requirements to management.
- Coordinate effectively with production employees, contractors and other members of the maintenance team.
- Follow all company safety procedures, food-safety requirements and regulatory standards.
- Work safely in confined spaces, at heights and in areas with restricted access, where properly trained and authorized.
- Maintain clean, organized and safe work areas.
- Perform other related maintenance and operational duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Valid British Columbia 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate of Qualification.
- Minimum two years of industrial maintenance, plant-operating or related experience.
- Experience operating power tools, hand tools and industrial equipment.
- General knowledge of mechanical, electrical and refrigeration systems.
- Ability to read equipment information, operating procedures and maintenance instructions.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with employees, contractors and management.
- Reliable, responsible and able to work with limited supervision.
- Ability to perform the essential physical duties of the position, including lifting and carrying items weighing up to 40 pounds and frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching and climbing.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying environmental conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a food-processing or manufacturing facility.
- Experience with industrial refrigeration or ammonia refrigeration systems.
- Provincial Millwright Journeyperson certification or recognized Red Seal equivalent.
- Forklift, reach truck, scissor lift or skid-steer certification.
- Current WHMIS, fall-protection, confined-space-entry or related safety certification.
Work Environment
This position requires regular work in an active food-manufacturing environment. Employees may be exposed to cold, heat, noise, moisture and other typical industrial conditions.
Required personal protective equipment may include safety footwear or rubber boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves and high-visibility clothing.
