Bring your engineering expertise to a role where innovation meets public service. You'll lead complex mechanical design projects, solve critical technical challenges, and play a key role in supporting the performance and evolution of our LFLRV fleet.
- Designing complex mechanical system solutions.
- Investigating and diagnosing complex mechanical engineering problems and recommending cost effective solutions.
- Preparing new and/or modifying existing technical specifications and test procedures.
- Direct and review mechanical engineering work prepared by assigned staff which may include Design Engineers, Engineering Technologists, Design Draftspersons and outside consultants.
- Manage and coordinate various projects and/or contracts, and work with design staff to establish work plans and requirements.
- Coordinating and supervising the comprehensive testing of vehicles; analyzing and interpreting the data obtained; modifying test procedures or developing new procedures as required.
- Coordinating internal and external engineering services in order to ensure acceptable standards of performance and reliability.
- Making recommendations for changes in design or developing new concepts of design to meet given requirements.
- May review submissions for development of projects.
- Assist with the day-to-day management and supervision of the section.
- Prepare documents, presentations, and reports for use by the department/section, and distribute to the appropriate parties in accordance with established standards.
- Providing professional expertise regarding important technical matters and making recommendations as to the most cost-effective solutions.

- Completion of a post-secondary college diploma or university degree in a related discipline or combination of education, training and experience deemed to be equivalent.
- University Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario (PEO) is mandatory.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the mechanical engineering discipline as related to vehicle maintenance engineering combined with a strong knowledge of project management concepts and practices and have the ability to carry out and/or co-ordinate projects and studies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of vehicle testing procedures/programs, structural analysis, metallurgical testing, fasteners and mechanical component selection, welding specifications and quality control concepts.
- Conversant with electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems and principles.
- Strong knowledge of the mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment associated with LFLRV as well as the various maintenance engineering support functions necessary for the maintenance of the TTC surface fleet.
- Possess sound judgement plus excellent design technical, analytical, problem solving, interpersonal, verbal communication and report writing skills.
- Strong computer skills, with a good working knowledge of personal computers and computerized applications related to the work.
- Requires a valid Province of Ontario Class 'G' Driver’s License and may be required to use personal vehicle to attend off-site work locations.
This position is designated Specified Management under the TTC's Fitness for Duty Policy. If you do not hold a designated position, you will be required to pass a drug test as part of the certification process.
