We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to join our compassionate team at North Okanagan Hospice Society (NOHS) Casual position with our NOHS Hospice team. NOHS's program is designed to provide compassionate, high-quality end-of-life care in the welcoming and supportive environment of a hospice house. Our dedicated hospice team delivers individualized care tailored to each resident's unique needs, with a focus on comfort, dignity, and quality of life. Through comprehensive nursing, medical, emotional, spiritual, and family support services, we strive to ensure that residents experience dignity, peace, and the highest possible quality of life during their end-of-life journey.
NOHS is a non-profit society that supports people with a palliative diagnosis, their family, and the bereaved. When medical intervention can no longer add days to life, we strive to add more life to each day. We operate Hospice House, a 12-bed palliative care facility in Vernon, BC. We provide end of life care, pain and symptom management support, and short-term respite care to palliative patients. We also offer grief and bereavement services to anyone anticipating or dealing with the loss of a significant person in their life.
Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) leads the interdisciplinary team in providing quality hospice palliative care to clients and loved ones and is a member of the interdisciplinary team in providing quality hospice palliative care to clients and loved ones. The RN works as a key member of the clinical team in providing excellence in palliative care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and standards. The RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of client care, including providing supervision and oversight to the clinical setting as required. The RN operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the BC College of Nurses and Midwives, and according to North Okanagan Hospice Society’s operating policies and standards and unit specific protocols.
Key Responsibilities
Provides care as part of a team that supports the NOHS vision, mission, team values, policies, and procedures, as well as BCCNM scope and standards of practice.
Assesses patient/resident/family's actual and potential strengths and limitations including physiological, psychological, socio-cultural, and spiritual needs. Where appropriate, encourages patient/resident participation in activities of daily living.
Contributes to the development and ongoing changes to the individualized plan of care, including attending and providing input into multidisciplinary care planning meetings and family conferences.
Performs nursing care and procedures and evaluates outcomes. Administers medications to assigned patients/residents according to unit specific protocols.
Participates in admissions, discharges, and transfers of patients/ residents according to NOHS operating policies and procedures.
Contributes to interdisciplinary consultations and chart rounds for the physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs of clients and loved ones.
Documents and updates all relevant information about care and procedures to achieve patient/resident safety and comfort.
Assists in the orientation and continuing education of new staff, students, and other members of the Health Care Team.
Participates in continuous quality improvement and program evaluation activities, education sessions, team conferences, meetings, and committees.
Assists other members of the care team in non-nursing duties as time permits ie: light housekeeping, terminal room cleaning, food service, and laundry.
Day, evening, and night shifts are available. While this position does not require shift rotation, applicants should demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to work different shifts as operational needs require.
Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications: Education, Training and Experience
Required Qualifications:
· Active and unrestricted registration and licensure with BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BBCMN).
· Knowledge and experience in end-of-life care.
