Job Description – Business Development Representative (Cutting Inserts)
Location: Calgary, AB
Industry Focus: OEM, Oil & Gas, Electricity, Industrial Manufacturing
About Precise Pipe
Precise Pipe manufactures and distributes seamless and welded carbon steel pipe, along with a growing line of precision cutting inserts and tooling solutions, backed by an obsession for customer satisfaction, exceptional quality, rapid supply, and tailored solutions.
With over 60 years of expertise, we are a North American leader in industrial steel and tooling solutions, supported by our own mills, manufacturing partners, and a global inventory network. Alongside our core pipe offerings for upstream and downstream oil and gas markets, our cutting insert division supplies precision tooling — including turning, milling, drilling, and threading inserts — to OEMs, machine shops, and industrial manufacturers across North America. Beyond energy, our divisions also support galvanized products, OEM parts, and general industrial machining supply.
Role Objective
The Business Development Representative will drive growth in our cutting insert product line, with a focus on the OEM, oil & gas, and electricity sectors. This role suits someone with a background in technical or industrial sales — ideally with exposure to machining, tooling, or metalworking — who is ready to actively build pipeline, engage new clients, and develop long-term business relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Prospect and generate new business for cutting insert products through outbound sales efforts (visits, calls, emails, networking)
- Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline with consistent follow-ups
- Support the full sales cycle from initial contact to order execution, in coordination with internal teams
- Engage with clients — including machine shops, OEMs, and industrial manufacturers — to understand tooling and cutting insert requirements, with technical support as needed
- Prepare and follow up on quotations, ensuring alignment with customer specifications (grade, geometry, coating, application)
- Maintain regular communication with clients to build long-term relationships and repeat business
- Track sales activities and pipeline updates in CRM or internal systems to support business strategy
- Stay current on cutting insert product lines, applications, and industry trends to speak credibly with technical buyers
Qualifications
- 3–4 years of sales experience, preferably in cutting tools, machining/tooling supply, industrial products, oil & gas, electricity, or a related technical industry
- Solid understanding of cutting inserts and specification-based selling, or a strong ability to quickly learn technical tooling knowledge (grades, coatings, applications, machining processes)
- Demonstrated experience in outbound sales, including prospecting, follow-ups, and pipeline generation (not limited to inbound/order-taking roles)
- Strong communication skills, both customer-facing and internal, with the ability to participate in technical discussions with support
- Results-driven with a proactive approach to business development
- Organized and disciplined in managing leads, follow-ups, and opportunities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; CRM experience is an asset
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $55,000–$80,000 CAD, depending on experience
- Performance Bonus / Commission: Available based on results
- Full benefits upon inception
- Paid Vacation: Provided annually in line with company policy
Success Profile
- A self-starter comfortable reaching out to new prospects and building relationships from scratch
- Someone commercially driven but curious and passionate about learning cutting tool products, machining applications, and new industries
