Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Developer to lead the design, development, integration, and optimization of our Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central environment. This role will be responsible for architecting scalable solutions, supporting complex integrations, leading upgrade initiatives, and mentoring development team members while collaborating with business stakeholders to deliver high-value solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Business Central extensions.
- Lead NAV to Business Central upgrade and migration projects (on-premises and SaaS).
- Architect and support integrations using APIs, Web Services, Azure Functions, and Power Platform.
- Troubleshoot performance issues, optimize SQL/database performance, and provide Level 3 support.
- Develop workflows, approvals, automation, and reporting solutions.
- Establish development standards, conduct code reviews, and mentor junior developers.
- Collaborate with functional consultants, business analysts, QA teams, project managers, and business leaders.
- Produce technical documentation, solution designs, and deployment procedures.
Key Requirements
- 15+ years of hands-on Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central / NAV development experience
- Preferred Experience with Business Central version 2024 or greater
- Strong proficiency in AL programming language and extension development.
- Experience upgrading and migrating NAV solutions to Business Central (on-premises and SaaS).
- Deep understanding of Business Central architecture, application objects, and data model.
- Expertise with VS Code, Git, Azure DevOps, and modern development practices.
- Ability to design and develop custom extensions while following Microsoft's extension model.
- Familiarity with the following add-ons or equivalent - Insight Works – Enhanced Planning Pack, Insight Works – Counter Sales, Microsoft Forecasting API and Document Path.
- Experience integrating Business Central with external systems using - APIs (REST/OData/SOAP), Web Services, Azure Functions and Power Platform.
- Strong knowledge of Business Central modules, including: Master Data, Customer Service / Sales – Quote to Cash, Finance – (AR, AP, GL, FA, Consolidated Financials), Purchasing – Requisitions to PO Receipt including integration to forecasting tools, Operations, Inventory and Warehousing.
- Experience with data migration, data conversion, and configuration packages.
- Knowledge of SQL Server, database performance tuning, and query optimization.
- Experience troubleshooting performance issues and resolving application defects.
- Strong understanding of security roles, permissions, and user management.
- Experience developing workflows, approvals, and business process automation.
- Knowledge of Azure services, including: Azure Storage, Azure Key Vault, Azure Logic Apps and Azure API Management.
- Familiarity with Power BI integration and business reporting solutions.
- Experience with EDI, third-party integrations, and middleware platforms.
- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and automated deployment processes.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Ability to produce technical documentation, design specifications, and support materials.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work directly with functional consultants and business stakeholders.
- Experience gathering technical requirements and translating business requirements into solutions.
- Strong communication and mentoring skills to support junior developers.
- Knowledge of Microsoft's development best practices and release management processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central certifications.
- Experience with AppSource application development.
- Experience in multi-company Business Central implementations.
- Knowledge of Canadian taxation (GST/HST/PST/QST) and regulatory requirements.
- Experience with distribution, retail, or wholesale business environments.
- Familiarity with AI, Copilot, and Business Central automation capabilities.
