Job Overview
Comfort Home Café & Campden General Store is seeking a dedicated, reliable, and detail-oriented Part-Time Baker's Assistant to join our growing bakery team. This role is essential in supporting the daily baking process, ensuring high-quality products, maintaining inventory, and keeping our kitchen organized and efficient.
The ideal candidate has a passion for baking, food preparation, and customer service, with a strong appreciation for homemade products and attention to detail. Previous experience in a bakery, café, restaurant, or food service environment is an asset, but we are happy to train the right individual who is eager to learn and grow.
In addition to supporting our baking operations, this role assists with café service, inventory management, packaging, and general kitchen operations while helping carry forward our mission of:

Key Responsibilities: Baking & Food Preparation
- Assist baker with food preparation, including measuring ingredients, mixing batters and doughs, and preparing recipes according to company standards.
- Assist with baking fresh butter tarts, scones, soups, pastries, breads, and other café menu items as needed.
- Prepare ingredients and assemble baked goods while maintaining consistency and quality.
- Plate and present baked goods for café service and retail displays.
- Package baked goods for retail sale and customer orders while maintaining freshness and presentation standards.
- Vacuum-seal scones and other bakery products for retail sale.
Inventory Management & Production Tracking
- Complete daily morning inventory counts of all baked goods, including scones, butter tarts, pastries, breads, and other prepared items.
- Record and track daily baked goods output, including quantities produced, sold, and remaining inventory.
- Maintain accurate production records to help monitor product demand, reduce waste, and support daily baking decisions.
- Monitor baked goods inventory throughout the day and communicate when items need to be replenished or prepared.
- Ensure all baked goods are properly labelled with production dates and expiry dates, and rotated using FIFO (First In, First Out) procedures.
- Manage and maintain the baked goods display by ensuring products are fresh, organized, fully stocked, and nicely presented.
- Vacuum-seal scones and other bakery products for retail sale while maintaining freshness and quality.
- Assist with weekly inventory counts of ingredients, packaging supplies, and finished products.
- Maintain accurate records of ingredient and packaging inventory levels.
- Receive, unpack, organize, and properly store deliveries.
- Monitor stock levels and notify management when ingredients, packaging, or bakery supplies need to be reordered.
- Maintain organized storage areas, including coolers, freezers, and dry storage.
- Work closely with the baking team to ensure daily production levels meet customer demand while minimizing product waste.
Kitchen Operations & Food Safety
- Maintain cleanliness of workstations, utensils, baking equipment, and kitchen areas.
- Follow all food handling procedures and food safety regulations.
- Wash dishes, baking trays, utensils, and equipment throughout each shift.
- Assist with opening and closing kitchen duties.
- Ensure all preparation areas meet health and sanitation standards.
- Support efficient kitchen operations by keeping workspaces clean, organized, and fully stocked.
Preferred qualifications include:
- Previous bakery, café, restaurant, or food service experience.
- Experience preparing baked goods such as butter tarts, scones, pastries, breads, soups, and other homemade products.
- Cake decorating experience is considered a strong asset.
- Knowledge of food preparation, cooking, and baking techniques.
- Familiarity with food safety regulations and proper food handling procedures.
- Experience with inventory management, stock organization, product rotation, and production tracking.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
- Strong attention to detail for accurate measurements, consistency, and product presentation.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Comfortable using kitchen equipment and packaging baked goods.
- Valid Food Handler Certification is preferred (or willingness to obtain upon hire).

Please note: This is not a summer student position. We are looking for someone seeking long-term employment with availability throughout the year.
