General Scope
The Site Environment Supervisor is the site's lead for environmental regulatory compliance at the Minto Mine, reporting to the VP Lands & Environment, and Director, Site Operations and Business Planning. This role is intended for a hands-on environmental professional who is comfortable working in a remote mine-site setting and who can translate permit requirements, management plans, and monitoring programs into safe, practical, and well-documented field execution.
The Site Environment Supervisor will coordinate and supervise third-party environmental contractors, ensure monitoring programs are completed to the required standard, support regulatory and permit reporting, and act as a key site resource for environmental compliance and spill response.
The successful candidate will have direct experience with mine-site or exploration environmental programs, including surface water and groundwater sampling, field inspections, erosion and sediment control, biological and wildlife-related surveys, contractor oversight, data QA/QC, and environmental incident response.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance and Permit Implementation
- Act as the site lead for environmental compliance with water licenses, and Quartz Mining Land Use Permit, including tracking permit conditions, effluent and discharge criteria, and reporting deadlines.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports, notifications, and annual filings to the Yukon Water Board, Yukon Government Energy, Mines and Resources, and other regulators as required.
- Translate permit conditions and management plan requirements into clear field tasks, inspection routines, contractor scopes, sampling schedules, and follow-up actions.
- Support permit amendment, transfer, and renewal processes, including coordination with technical consultants.
- Maintain accurate compliance records and documentation to support inspections, audits, and regulatory inquiries.
Contractor and Field Supervision
- Supervise and coordinate third-party environmental consultants, monitors, samplers, biologists, archaeologists, water technicians, drilling/exploration support contractors, waste contractors, and other vendors carrying out environmental work on site.
- Review contractor work plans, field procedures, and deliverables to confirm alignment with permit conditions and company standards.
- Conduct routine environmental inspections of active work areas, fuel storage areas, water management infrastructure, exploration work sites, water management infrastructure, and other areas with potential environmental risk.
- Coordinate environmental oversight with site operations, construction contractors, and logistics to manage environmental risk during active construction, drilling, and reclamation work.
Water Quality and Environmental Monitoring
- Lead, coordinate, and participate in surface water and groundwater monitoring programs in accordance with approved monitoring plans, permits, standard operating procedures, and QA/QC requirements.
- Track and interpret water quality results, including dissolved metals and effluent standards, against licence criteria.
- Support monitoring of contact water, non-contact water, seepage, runoff, diversions, ponds, sumps, discharge points, groundwater wells, and receiving environments.
- Maintain and update water quality, monitoring, and compliance tracking databases and spreadsheets.
Archaeological, Biological and Ecological Field Programs
- Plan and/or oversee biological, wildlife, and vegetation survey programs typical of mine and exploration sites, including aquatic and fisheries surveys, wildlife surveys, and vegetation and reclamation monitoring.
- Support environmental baseline and monitoring programs associated field activities conducted onsite.
- Coordinate with qualified professionals and third-party consultants engaged to complete specialized archaeological, biological and environmental studies.
Spill Preparedness and Response
- Maintain and continuously improve the site's spill prevention, preparedness, and response program, including spill kit readiness, equipment inspections, and contingency planning.
- Lead the onsite response to spills, releases, or other environmental incidents, including containment, notification, and remediation coordination.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of spills and releases to the Yukon Spill Line and other regulators as required.
- Deliver spill response training and drills for site personnel and contractors.
Reporting and Stakeholder Relations
- Prepare clear, accurate environmental reports and updates for site leadership, ownership, and regulators.
- Support engagement with the Selkirk First Nation on environmental matters.
Health and Safety
- Adhere to all Selkirk Mining Corp.’s health and safety policies and camp procedures.
- Participate actively in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and hazard identification.
- Take a proactive approach to identifying and reporting hazards, incidents, and near misses.
- Participate in the JOHS Committee and site safety programs as they relate to environmental risk.

Key Competencies, Knowledge, and Experience
- Degree or diploma in environmental science, biology, earth science, natural resource management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 5+ years of environmental experience in mining, exploration, or heavy industrial settings, including field supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated experience conducting or overseeing surface water and groundwater sampling programs.
- Experience with mine-site or exploration biological and wildlife survey programs.
- Working knowledge of Canadian mining environmental regulatory frameworks (water licences, land use permits, spill reporting requirements); Yukon-specific experience is a strong asset.
- Demonstrated experience supervising third-party contractors and consultants.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including report writing for regulators and leadership.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently under minimal supervision in a remote environment.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Valid driver's license required.
Preferred (Assets):
- Experience working directly under Yukon water licences and land use permits (e.g., Type A/Type B Water Licences, Quartz Mining Land Use Permits).
- Experience working with or alongside Indigenous governments or First Nations on environmental or land matters.
- Certification or training in spill response, incident command, or environmental emergency management.
- Experience with environmental databases, GIS, or data visualization tools.
- WHMIS, First Aid, or other relevant safety certifications.
- Previous experience working in a remote mining, construction, or heavy industrial setting.
