Facilities and Security Officer
3 Permanent Part-Time (0.40 FTE) and 2 Permanent Full-Time (1.0 FTE) Positions

Position:
Reporting to the Manager of Facilities, the Facilities and Security Officer plays a key role in maintaining a safe, secure, and well-maintained environment across the Richmond Road Campus, Junior School, and Derby Street locations. Working primarily independently, this position conducts regular interior and exterior patrols to help ensure the safety of students, staff, visitors, and school property, while also carrying out minor maintenance and repair tasks.
As the primary on-site responder during evening and after-hours periods, the Facilities and Security Officer serves as the first point of contact in emergency situations, taking appropriate action and coordinating emergency response or referral when other school staff are not on duty.
Hours of Work
Hours of work vary and can include night, day, and evening shifts, as well as weekends.
Key Responsibilities & Expectations:
- Provide regular foot patrols of campuses.
- Monitor for suspicious activities and emergencies.
- Monitor Video surveillance.
- Secure buildings that are not in use, checking that windows and doors are locked.
- Recognize and identify outside visitors.
- Ensure policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Contact Police or other authorities for emergency situations.
- Report all incidents, problems, and areas of concern to the supervisor by filling out an incident report.
- Monitor Mechanical and Electrical rooms during shift, record through Incident Reports and or an FMX (the school’s facilities ticketing system) for anything that is not functioning properly.
- May perform crowd control and traffic patrols in parking lots during special events.
- Monitor traffic control during student pick-up/drop off times to ensure traffic is flowing smoothly through the drop off/pick-up area.
- May be required to assist in salting or clearing snow on school walkways.
- Minor maintenance to school properties, such as changing light bulbs, minor drywall repairs and painting, moving tables and furniture.
- Support basic grounds duties.
- Maintain equipment and perform preventative maintenance inspections when necessary, creating work requests for items needing repair.
- Other duties as required.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- A Security Worker License recognized by the Security Services Act with two years of experience, as well as experience with security monitoring systems.
- Experience in minor maintenance, painting, and drywall repair.
- General knowledge of the functioning of HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical Systems.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Tact, discretion, and diplomacy in problem solving and interacting with people.
- Ability to work under pressure and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Must be in good physical condition, with the ability to walk for long periods of time and comfortably lift loads of 23 Kgs/50 lbs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic Outlook and Microsoft Word skills.
- Valid BC Driver's License and clean driving abstract.
Pay Rate:
Hourly range: $20.51 to $30.77
Criminal Record Check:
Must pass and maintain a clear Solicitor General criminal record check for the purpose of working with children.
