Position Overview
As a Senior Tax Accountant, you will play a pivotal role at Alpha Adroit and its associated companies, overseeing various accounting functions and providing specialized business consultation and strategy services. Your responsibilities will span from tax accounting, to financial accounting, management accounting, business consultation, and audit/review services. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in catering to the diverse needs of corporations. Experience with personal accounting for business owners is considered a valuable asset.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and file individual and corporate tax returns in compliance with federal, provincial, and local tax laws.
- Conduct tax planning and provide strategic tax advice to clients, including corporations and high-net-worth individuals.
- Assist clients with tax audits and resolve disputes with tax authorities.
- Perform tax research to stay updated with changes in tax laws and apply the knowledge to clients' situations.
- Identify opportunities for tax savings and optimization for individuals and businesses.
- Maintain accurate and complete tax records and documentation.
- Communicate complex tax-related issues to clients in a clear and understandable manner.
- Work closely with other accounting professionals and staff on multi-disciplinary projects.
Qualifications
Education:
- A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA (Chartered Professional Accountant) designation is required.
- Additional certifications such as TEP (Trust and Estate Practitioner) or in-depth corporate tax knowledge would be an asset.
Experience:
- 3+ years of experience in tax preparation and planning, with experience working with both individuals and corporate clients.
- Familiarity with Alberta-specific tax issues and regulations is a plus.
Software Skills:
- Proficient in tax preparation software (e.g., TaxCycle, Intuit Profile, Cantax, or equivalent) and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or Xero is beneficial.
- Comfortable with cloud-based accounting platforms and document management systems
Other Skills & Attributes:
- Strong knowledge of Canadian tax law, including personal income tax, corporate tax, GST/HST, and payroll taxes.
- Detail-oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain complex tax concepts to clients.
