Job Overview
Canada U-Tutoring Learning Institute is seeking engaging and dependable Core French Teachers and French Immersion Teachers to support elementary school students in Grades K–6.
These are two different teaching roles. Candidates may apply for one or both positions depending on their experience, French proficiency, and subject knowledge.
The ideal candidate has experience working with young learners, strong classroom management skills, and the ability to create structured, interactive, and age-appropriate lessons. In-person availability at our Markham location is strongly preferred, although qualified online teachers may also be considered.
Position 1: Core French Teacher
The Core French Teacher will help elementary students develop foundational French-language skills, including vocabulary, pronunciation, listening, speaking, reading, and basic writing.
This position is suitable for teachers with experience teaching French as a second language to students who primarily attend English-language schools.
Core French Responsibilities
- Teach Core French to elementary students in Grades K–6.
- Plan lessons based on students’ ages, school levels, and existing French abilities.
- Build foundational vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and conversational skills.
- Support students with schoolwork, homework, tests, and classroom assignments.
- Use games, songs, storytelling, movement, visual materials, and hands-on activities to maintain student engagement.
- Encourage students to speak French confidently in a supportive, low-pressure environment.
- Assess student progress through participation, oral activities, reading, writing, and informal checks.
- Provide appropriate feedback to students, parents, and program coordinators.
- Maintain a positive, structured, and age-appropriate classroom environment.
Position 2: French Immersion Teacher
The French Immersion Teacher will support students enrolled in French Immersion programs. The teacher must be comfortable providing instruction primarily in French and helping students understand both French-language concepts and academic subject content.
Depending on student needs, instruction may include French language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, or other elementary-level subjects taught in French.
French Immersion Responsibilities
- Teach and tutor French Immersion students in Grades K–6.
- Deliver instruction primarily in French.
- Support students with French-language reading, writing, oral communication, grammar, and comprehension.
- Help students understand school subjects taught in French, including mathematics, science, and social studies where applicable.
- Assist with homework, projects, tests, and classroom assignments from French Immersion programs.
- Explain academic concepts clearly while maintaining an appropriate level of French-language immersion.
- Adapt instruction for students with different levels of French comprehension and academic ability.
- Develop students’ confidence in using French for both everyday communication and academic learning.
- Monitor student progress and communicate relevant feedback to parents and program coordinators.
- Maintain a structured and supportive learning environment.
General Responsibilities
- Prepare lesson materials in advance.
- Arrive on time and maintain consistent attendance.
- Communicate professionally with students, parents, and staff.
- Follow the institute’s teaching, safety, and student supervision procedures.
- Adapt lessons based on student needs, learning styles, and developmental levels.
- Create an inclusive and encouraging learning environment.
- Participate in occasional staff meetings, training, or program planning when required.
Required Qualifications
- Strong French-language proficiency in speaking, reading, writing, and listening.
- Bachelor’s degree, college diploma, or current enrolment in French, Education, Child Studies, Linguistics, or a related field.
- At least one year of experience working with elementary-aged children in a school, tutoring centre, language program, camp, childcare, or similar setting.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to explain concepts clearly and adapt instruction for young learners.
- Reliable, patient, organized, and comfortable working with students between approximately 5 and 12 years old.
- Legally eligible to work in Canada.
Additional Requirements for French Immersion Teachers
- High level of French fluency and the ability to conduct lessons primarily or entirely in French.
- Familiarity with the Ontario elementary French Immersion curriculum or comparable French-language programming.
- Ability to support elementary academic subjects using French.
- Strong French reading and writing skills, including grammar and academic vocabulary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ontario College of Teachers certification or another recognized teaching credential.
- Experience teaching Core French, French Immersion, or French as a Second Language.
- Experience teaching students in JK, SK, or the primary grades.
- Experience working in an Ontario public, Catholic, private, or French-language school.
- DELF, DALF, CEFR, or another recognized French-language qualification.
- Experience using play-based, inquiry-based, or movement-based teaching methods.
- Ability to teach both Core French and French Immersion students.
- Previous online teaching experience.
Teaching Format
This role is primarily intended for in-person instruction at our Markham location. Teachers who can consistently attend in person will be given priority.
Online teaching may be considered for candidates who:
- Have strong French proficiency and relevant teaching experience.
- Can provide a quiet and professional teaching environment.
- Have a reliable internet connection, camera, microphone, and appropriate teaching materials.
- Are comfortable keeping young students engaged through an online platform.
The availability of online hours will depend on student enrolment and scheduling needs.
