Job Title: Youth Outreach Support Worker

Program: A’mut

Location: Surrey, BC

Status: Full-Time

Hourly Rate: $24.50 - $26.67

Schedule: Monday - Friday 0900-1700

The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime.

We are recruiting a Full time Outreach Youth Support Worker for A’mut Place. Located in Surrey, A’mut is a full-time live-in program for adjudicated Indigenous female youth between the ages of 12-to-18 as an alternative to incarceration. The Outreach Youth support worker is responsible for connecting with youth referred to the program to aid with transition, as well as bridge connections to resources locally and in the home community including cultural supports. Provide support with transitioning home, as well as aftercare for up to 12 months. Staff are supported by an art facilitator, Elder, and community-based resources.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Identify and provide intervention and transitional support services to at-risk or with special needs and with a variety of issues and skill levels.
Engage with youth, their families and community to access community resources and services.
Refer youth to appropriate services in the community and supporting them to access these services.
Assist youth in accessing and participating in traditional activities, material and social resources, and environmental and cultural connections.
Assist youth in identifying and accessing appropriate housing, health services, educational, vocational, recreational, and cultural pursuits, and other appropriate community contacts and resources.
Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and attend meetings as required.
Maintain awareness of any problems experienced by the youth in adherence to Community Care regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Diploma in related field plus two (2) years related experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience working with Indigenous communities and understanding of culturally safe practices.
Experience developing relationships within Indigenous communities.
Experience in bed-based environment with knowledge of issues related to substance use and trauma, or like and similar experience.
Working knowledge of legislation and policies related to Social Assistance, Mental Health Act and Youth Justice.
Understanding of the biopsychosocial spiritual model of substance-use, as well as trauma-informed practice.
Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
Record keeping skills and conflict resolution and advocacy skills.
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

MANDATORY JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Food Safe Level 1.
Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program.
Doctor’s Note of fitness required.
Satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
Valid driver’s license (Class 5) with satisfactory driving record.
Travel to communities within BC may be required.
