Senior Project Engineer – Transmission - Stations
Pay Rate: Up to $88.05-110/hour, depending on experience
Contract Length: Approximately 1 Year (August 3, 2026 – August 9, 2027)
Location: Burnaby, British Columbia (Hybrid)
Raise is currently hiring a Senior Project Engineer – Transmission - Stations on behalf of our client. They're expanding their engineering team to support critical transmission and substation capital projects, making this a unique opportunity to work on complex utility infrastructure projects while collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Note: The primary pay rate is based on the rate for an incorporated contractor who owns their own business. However, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in a T4 arrangement, where applicable.
Description
The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for providing engineering leadership, technical oversight, project planning, estimating, and quality management services for medium-complexity electrical utility projects. This role focuses on substation engineering and project delivery, ensuring engineering solutions are safe, technically sound, delivered on schedule, and within budget. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams while serving as the primary technical liaison between project managers, consultants, contractors, and delivery partners.
Responsibilities
Engineering & Project Delivery

Develop safe and reliable engineering solutions through design development, technical analysis, problem-solving, and interpretation of engineering specifications.

Lead engineering activities for electrical substation projects from design through construction and commissioning.

Assist project teams in achieving safety, quality, schedule, and budget objectives by preparing estimates, monitoring progress, coordinating engineering deliverables, and reviewing contractor work.

Resolve complex engineering and field issues through independent technical studies, engineering analysis, and sound professional judgment.

Prepare engineering work package agreements, design basis documents, engineering plans, and other project deliverables.

Chair engineering and design coordination meetings while tracking action items and distributing meeting minutes.

Proactively monitor engineering progress and identify potential risks or issues affecting project performance.

Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Contribute to engineering standards, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Civil, Structural, Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline recognized in Canada.

Minimum 8 years of utility engineering experience, including significant experience supporting electrical substation projects.

Minimum 4 years of project engineering or project management experience, either formally or as a Lead Engineer or Work Package Manager.

Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or immediately eligible for registration.

PMP certification is required.

Strong experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams, including Protection, Control, and Telecommunications disciplines.

Extensive knowledge of electrical utility engineering, transmission systems, and substation design.

Strong understanding of project management principles, engineering governance, and project execution.

Familiarity with CAD systems, engineering drawing standards, and industry-standard engineering software.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).

Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
Preferred Skills

Experience with transmission line design and engineering.

Previous experience supporting large electrical utility capital projects.

Experience working with Owner's Engineer teams or major utility organizations.

Strong knowledge of transmission system operations and substation interconnections.
Work Environment
-
Hybrid work arrangement with 3 days per week in the Burnaby office during the first three months, transitioning to 2 days per week thereafter.

Travel throughout British Columbia approximately once every two months for 1–2 day site visits.

Comfortable traveling to remote locations, including regional airports and small aircraft.

Education & Certifications

Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with Engineers & Geoscientists BC (EGBC), or eligible for immediate registration.

Must maintain an active Permit to Practice through their own practice or employer, where applicable.

Familiarity with digital engineering seal technology is considered an asset.
