Connor, Clark & Lunn Investment Management ("CC&L"), an affiliate of the Connor, Clark & Lunn Financial Group, is looking for an Investment Systems Developer to join our Vancouver-based Fundamental Canadian Equity Team.
CC&L's Fundamental Equity Team is comprised of talented, motivated and entrepreneurial professionals who manage over $22 billion in fundamental Canadian equity mandates. This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to, as well as learn and grow with, one of Canada's leading investment management teams.
We are looking for a builder. You will join our small team of developers who together own the technology that runs our investment process, from portfolio management and research systems the team relies on every day to the new tools that make us better. A major part of that mandate is AI. The team believes AI will be critical to its long-term success and is investing meaningfully in this area, and you will help design and develop our next generation of AI capabilities: tools built on large language models that change how research gets done, how information flows to decision-makers, and how portfolios are managed. You will be building from day one.
Our Fundamental Equity Team takes a bottom-up, research-driven approach: Portfolio Managers and Research Analysts form differentiated views on individual companies through deep fundamental analysis. Investment decisions are made by people using judgement, which means the highest-impact technology makes those people faster, better informed, and able to cover more ground. You will work directly with the Portfolio Managers and Research Analysts whose workflows you are transforming.
We are a flat team with no layers between you and the people using what you build. You will hear priorities and feedback directly from the investment professionals, but how to build the solution is up to you and your fellow developers. Much of what we need does not exist yet, so the opportunity to innovate is real: we avoid bureaucracy, embrace new approaches, and give people the independence to do their best work.
What You Will Do
You will be involved in the entire life cycle of what the team builds: scoping out the opportunity, creating prototypes, getting working tools into users' hands early, and iterating quickly with an entrepreneurial spirit.
You will work directly with Portfolio Managers and Research Analysts to find the places where technology can meaningfully improve the investment process, then design and build the solution. This spans everything from applications powered by AI to enhancing and maintaining the core systems the team relies on every day. You will also build the underlying infrastructure, from data pipelines to integrations and interfaces, that turns a promising idea into a dependable tool.
What You Bring
- A Builder's Mindset – you are action-oriented. You would rather put a working prototype in front of a user this week than perfect a design document.
- Programming Knowledge – you have an undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate degree in a computer-related field OR exceptional programming skills gained through work experience.
- AI Fluency – you have hands-on experience building with large language models and modern AI tooling, or the demonstrated ability and drive to get there quickly. You follow the space closely and have strong instincts for what these technologies can and cannot do.
- Deeply Analytical – you possess an analytical mind and enjoy mental challenges. An ability to perform deep, thoughtful analysis is required for this role.
- Passion for Technology – we work with several programming languages including Python and Kdb+/Q, but upfront knowledge of any specific language is not required. If you are passionate about technology, learning new languages and concepts is natural and fun.
- Collaborative Communication – you have a collaborative spirit that helps you work well with others, and you communicate effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues alike.
- Interest in Investment Management – this is key. Your curiosity about the domain will drive you to understand the problems worth solving.
We welcome applications from candidates with different levels of experience from new graduates to experienced professionals. The base salary range for full-time roles is $100,000 – $200,000 annually plus a competitive performance bonus. Compensation will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
To apply for this position, please submit your resume.
