Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Junior/Entry-Level Testing, Adjustment, and Balancing (TAB) Technician. In this role, you will work alongside experienced technicians and gain hands-on experience in performing testing, adjustment, and balancing procedures on HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing systems. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to start their career in the HVAC field and develop a strong foundation in measurement & instrumentation.
Duties
- Assist senior TAB technicians in conducting testing, adjustment, and balancing activities on HVAC, mechanical, and plumbing systems.
- Learn to perform inspections of equipment, ductwork, and piping systems to identify potential issues or inefficiencies.
- Gain familiarity with specialized testing equipment, including airflow hoods, manometers, flow meters, pressure gauges, and temperature sensors.
- Assist in collecting system performance data through airflow measurements, pressure readings, temperature differentials, and water flow rate tests.
- Work with senior technicians to analyse collected data and compare it against project specifications and design requirements.
- Assist in making necessary adjustments to HVAC equipment, air distribution systems, dampers, valves, pumps, and other components to achieve proper system performance.
- Collaborate with the team to ensure compliance with project plans, specifications, and client expectations.
- Learn to prepare accurate and detailed reports documenting testing procedures, findings, adjustments made, and recommendations for system optimization.
- Develop the ability to provide technical support and guidance to clients and project stakeholders regarding system performance and balancing issues.
- Maintain organized records of testing activities and equipment calibration.
- Perform on site audits of ventilation systems.
- Prepare TAB reports based on conducted field work for review by the project team.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent. Post-secondary qualification preferred.
- A strong interest in the HVAC, mechanical systems, or plumbing field.
- Basic understanding of HVAC systems and their components.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Basic knowledge of using measurement tools and equipment.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Effective communication skills to learn from senior technicians and interact with team members.
- Physical ability to perform tasks that may involve climbing ladders, accessing rooftops, and manoeuvring in tight spaces
Working Conditions:
- Work environment: various commercial and industrial buildings, new construction sites or retrofit buildings, mechanical rooms, confined spaces, hospitals, etc. Our work is approximately 75% in the Edmonton area, 25% out of town.
- Working conditions may vary and based on the scope of each project, you may be required to work outside and be exposed to rain, snow, and extreme heat or cold.
- Work hours may vary based on the scope of work for each project and at times you will be required to work weekends, overnight shift work or early morning shift work.
- A variety of physical demands are required to completed the work on site: climbing ladders, climbing stairs, access building roofs, open ceiling tiles, use aerial platforms to access ventilation equipment, stand for long hours, work in confined spaces
- Maintain a valid Driver’s License and transportation as project locations vary throughout the edmonton Area.
- Must be able to lift, move, and carry equipment (up to 50 pounds)
- Must be able to pass a drug and alcohol test as many industrial projects require pre access testing
