About the Client:
We're seeking a compassionate overnight caregiver for a senior woman living in Mississauga who recently returned home from the hospital. She lives with her daughter in a back-split home and uses a walker for mobility. While she can manage short distances to the bathroom on her own level, she requires assistance with stairs and is at risk of falls. She needs support with personal care including toileting and hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management. She also benefits from supervision for safety due to cognitive needs and prefers not to be alone. The client sleeps well through most nights and won't require constant active care, but needs someone present for peace of mind and safety monitoring.
Responsibilities:
- Provide overnight supervision from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM
- Monitor client safety throughout the night and respond to any needs
- Assist with bathroom transfers as needed using proper mobility support techniques
- Help with toileting and personal hygiene care
- Prepare and serve evening meals and any nighttime snacks
- Administer or remind about medications according to schedule
- Perform light tidying to maintain a safe environment
- Be alert to any changes in condition or potential fall risks
- Communicate clearly with family members about the client's status
What We're Looking For:
- Experience supporting seniors with mobility challenges and walker use
- Comfortable providing personal care including toileting assistance
- Knowledge of medication management and reminders
- Ability to provide cognitive support and gentle supervision
- Patient, calm demeanor with strong safety awareness
- Reliable and takes initiative when needed
- Excellent communication skills with family
- English speaking
- Comfortable with overnight shifts where sleep is permitted with monitoring system in place
Schedule:
This is a temporary 10-day assignment from August 9th through August 15th. Shifts run from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM nightly. The caregiver is expected to remain awake and alert but may rest during quiet periods with a monitoring system such as a bell or baby monitor to alert them if the client needs assistance. A PSW provides daytime care three times daily.
