About the role
We are looking for an Operations Superintendent to lead the safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible operations of our Wharf & Shipping Department through the application of best practices and compliance with all regulatory requirements and business deliverables.
This role is a great opportunity for a strong safety-oriented leader to drive and optimize safety culture and operational performance in a fast-paced work environment.

Reporting to the Manager of Business Services and working a Monday to Friday schedule, you will be:

Accountable for the safety standards and performance across your area – promoting the “zero harm” safety culture.

Accountable to deliver on key performance indicators such as productivity and quality in collaboration with other departments across site.

Fostering a culture of continuous improvement, supporting the team in the implementation of improvement initiatives, competency training, and technical advances.

Preparing and managing capital and operating budgets to achieve business outcomes.

Improving overall leadership capability and professional development of your team to support the operations’ robustness both now and into the future.

Applying business evaluation techniques in conjunction with risk assessment principles to optimize operation and service delivery.

Optimizing production and drive efficiency using leadership, engagement, and application of technology.

Identifying threats and opportunities to business objectives through data, conversations, and observations; and diagnosing root causes to determine the required intervention.

Leading with genuine care for others.

Engaging with teams to routinely share the business vision and foster an environment of trust and collaboration.

About you

A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team

A minimum of 5 years of experience within the same role or similar level of leadership

Mature and detailed understanding of health & safety leadership, culture, systems and management
-
Leadership experience and the ability to coach, mentor, and develop people – ideally within a unionized environment

Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
-
Understanding of cost structure and optimization
-
Prior knowledge of Lean/6 Sigma methodologies are an asset

The base salary range for this role is $131,360 - $197,040 CAD in addition to allowances, bonus, equity, health or retirement benefits, and any other discretionary benefits offered at Rio Tinto. Our base salary ranges are based on role, level, and location. Within the range, individual pay is determined by the skills, experience, and impact you bring to the role.
