Prairie Co-op is inviting applications for one (1) Accountant position within our Finance team. This position will be filled as either an Accountant II (Intermediate) or Accountant III (Fully Functional), with the final classification, title, and salary band determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

What You'll Do:
Reporting to the Director of Finance the Accountant and in collaboration with Finance Team members performs general accounting activities through the analysis and preparation of financial reports and statements. Responsibilities include:
- Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements and reports for internal and external stakeholders, including management, board, and compliance reporting;
- Support the preparation and review of consolidated reports and financial statements, and assess financial controls to enhance related policies, procedures, and processes;
- Perform general and cost accounting activities including budgeting/forecasting, cost reports, balance sheets, general ledgers, payables/receivables, journal entries, and fixed asset and inventory accounting;
- Analyze and reconcile financial reporting discrepancies and ensure compliance with financial transaction recording standards;
- Support the planning, preparation, and documentation of internal processes and the audit process, and assist in reviewing the accuracy of financial statements in accordance with accounting standards;
- Assist in analyzing the impact of new accounting standards, reporting requirements, and regulatory changes;
- Development and implementation of processes and controls that drive efficiency and effectiveness;
- Project planning and scenario development that supports the long-term effectiveness and longevity of the organization.
- Support the forecasting and budgeting process of a complex multi-vertical entity that ensures organizational financial stability and longevity.
- Team leadership and mentorship for other members of the Finance and Administration team, providing support to team members, coaching and problem solving with a curious and critical thinking mindset and approach.
The degree of independence, leadership, and complexity of assigned work will align with the level at which the position is filled. At the Accountant III level, the incumbent leads general accounting practices, including independent, objective assessment of governance, risk management processes, and the system of internal controls.

Project and process management experience would be beneficial.
