Overview
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Apprentice Powerline Technician to join our team. This entry-level position offers hands-on training and the opportunity to develop essential skills in electrical power distribution and transmission. The Apprentice Powerline Technician will assist experienced technicians in maintaining, repairing, and installing power lines and related equipment. Candidates should have a strong interest in electrical systems, mechanical work, and heavy equipment operation. This role is ideal for individuals eager to build a career in the utility or energy sector with a focus on safety, technical proficiency, and teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground power lines under supervision
- Operate and learn to handle heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, bucket trucks, and other construction machinery
- Use hand tools, power tools, rigging gear, and welding equipment to support line work projects
- Support with the setup and operation of bucket trucks and other aerial devices for line access
- Participate in safety inspections, identify potential hazards, and adhere to all safety protocols during work activities
- Assist with the handling of low voltage systems and electrical components as directed by senior technicians
- Support with material handling including rigging, lifting, and positioning heavy equipment or materials
- Contribute to team efforts during storm response or emergency repairs as needed
Skills
- Mechanical knowledge with an understanding of basic machinery operation
- Experience or familiarity with excavators, backhoes, bucket operations, and heavy equipment operation
- Electrical experience or background is a plus but not required; willingness to learn is essential
- Proficiency with hand tools and power tools used in construction and electrical work
- Knowledge of rigging techniques for lifting heavy loads safely
- Ability to operate bucket trucks safely for aerial work tasks
- Welding skills are advantageous but not mandatory; training will be provided if needed
- Strong safety awareness with the ability to recognize potential hazards in an industrial environment
- Excellent teamwork skills along with a proactive attitude toward learning new skills
