Reports To: Recreation Supervisor or CEO
Compensation: Starting at $60 per Therapeutic Recreation session (sessions are 2 hours), based on education, experience, and qualifications. Paid planning/documentation time is provided at $26/hour plus mileage reimbursement where applicable accordance with Best Life Aging policies.
Job Summary: As a Life Enrichment Assistant (LEA), you will support the planning and delivery of therapeutic recreation and engagement activities for older adults in their homes or community settings. Your role involves promoting social connection, cognitive stimulation, physical activity, and overall quality of life for clients living with varying levels of ability.
Service Area:This position involves travelling throughout the Ottawa area, including Barrhaven, Stittsville, Kanata, Carp, Westboro, Manotick, and surrounding communities. Reliable access to a vehicle and a valid driver's licence are required. Travel between clients is a regular part of this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver one-on-one and small group recreation sessions based on individual client interests and needs.
- Support the implementation of personalized enrichment and wellness programs.
- Engage clients in meaningful activities that support social, emotional, cognitive, spiritual, and physical well-being.
- Provide companionship and foster a positive, respectful, and encouraging environment.
- Assist clients with basic mobility and setup for activities, as needed.
- Monitor client participation and adapt activities to meet changing needs.
- Maintain accurate documentation of visits and client engagement.
- Communicate effectively and patiently with clients experiencing dementia and other medical conditions.
- Communicate observations and updates with the Recreation Supervisor and care team.
- Promote independence, dignity, and joy through person-centered approaches.
Qualifications:
- A diploma or degree in Therapeutic Recreation or a closely related discipline is preferred.
- Experience working with older adults or individuals with cognitive impairments such as dementia is an asset.
- Ability to facilitate and adapt activities based on client ability and preference.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Compassionate, creative, and client-focused mindset.
- Ability to work independently in home and community settings.
- Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation is required.
Working Conditions:
- May involve working evenings or weekends depending on client needs.
- Travel to clients’ homes or community locations is required.
- Physical demands include light lifting, standing, and assisting with activity setup.

Pay: From $30.00 per hour
