JOB DESCRIPTION: Maritime Demolition and Environmental Services is seeking a reliable and hardworking Demolition Worker to join our construction team in Dartmouth. Any successful candidates will work as part of a crew performing demolition and site preparation activities on various construction and environmental remediation projects throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Load, unload and transport construction materials, demolition debris and tools to and from work sites
- Demolish buildings and structures using hand and power tools according to established safety procedures
- Remove rubble, debris and other waste materials from demolition sites using wheelbarrows, carts or trucks
- Sort, clean and pile salvaged materials such as lumber, steel, fixtures and bricks for reuse or recycling
- Assist in setting up and dismantling scaffolding, ramps, catwalks and barricades at construction sites
- Operate pneumatic hammers, vibrators, jackhammers and compactors
- Tend or feed machines or equipment used in construction and demolition
- Direct traffic at or near construction sites when required
- Perform site cleanup activities to ensure work areas are safe and free of hazards
- Assist other trades workers as required
- Follow all workplace health and safety regulations and wear required personal protective equipment
- Report safety hazards and equipment defects to supervisor immediately
EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required
Experience:
- Previous experience in construction or demolition work is an asset but not required; on-the-job training will be provided
- Experience with concrete core drilling and saw cutting is considered a strong asset and will be given preference
Certifications: Valid safety certifications (WHMIS, Fall Protection) are assets but training will be provided
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Physical strength and stamina to perform manual labour for extended periods
- Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 lbs repeatedly
- Basic understanding of hand and power tools
- Ability to work in all weather conditions
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions
- Team player with good communication skills
- Reliable and punctual
- Safety-conscious attitude
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: English - Basic oral communication required for safety instructions and team coordination
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Outdoor work in all weather conditions
- Physically demanding work requiring frequent lifting, bending, and standing
- Exposure to dust, noise, and vibration
- Work at heights may be required
- Personal protective equipment will be provided and must be worn.

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
