Senior Accountant

Position Overview
A well-established construction and real estate development organization is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join its growing finance team. Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing financial reporting, month-end processes, project accounting, and maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company's financial records.
This position is ideal for a CPA or CPA-designated professional with experience in the construction, real estate, or development industry who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities

Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements.

Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations.

Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts while ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

Assist with project and job cost accounting, including tracking project budgets, costs, and profitability.

Prepare and analyze work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and project reporting.

Reconcile bank accounts, credit facilities, and intercompany transactions.

Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning initiatives.

Assist with GST/HST filings and other regulatory reporting requirements.

Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutions during year-end audits and reviews.

Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies.

Provide financial analysis and reporting to support operational and strategic decision-making.

Mentor junior accounting staff and provide guidance on accounting procedures as needed.
Qualifications

CPA designation required (or actively completing final stages of the CPA program with significant relevant experience).

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience.

Previous experience within the construction, real estate development, or property management industry is highly preferred.

Strong understanding of project accounting, job costing, and financial reporting.

Experience with month-end and year-end close processes.

Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.

Experience with ERP/accounting systems such as Sage, Jonas, Viewpoint, or similar accounting software is considered an asset.
