Job Description and Responsibilities:
The selected candidate will part of a small multi-disciplinary team involved in software design and development for space applications. The candidate shall also assist in the validation and verification (V&V) of software solutions as well as technical documentation of all work. They will also be responsible, or in an assisting capacity, to conduct spacecraft dynamics modeling, simulation and analysis; developing space situational awareness (SSA) algorithms; and space mission design, analysis and validation.
Finally, the candidate must be able to communicate and present methodologies and analyses effectively to both technical and non-technical clients including: government staff, academic audience, or military personnel. Able to communicate domain knowledge, specifications, and requirements to a multi-disciplinary team of electrical and mechanical engineers, computer scientists, and software developers to assist them in:
- Design, development and integration of operational software solutions; and
- Research and development of new algorithms and solutions.
Desired Education Level and Background:
The candidate must have a bachelor’s in Aerospace or Space Engineering with expertise in Software development, or Computer Science. Master’s or Ph.D. in a related field is considered a huge asset.
Skills and Qualifications:
The candidate must show a solid understanding and knowledge in the following areas:
- Strong programming experience using Java, JavaScript, Python, C++ and/or C#
- Familiar with database structure and management (MS SQL Management)
- Familiar with API and Automatic Query tools
- Experience in using open-source libraries is considered a strong asset (e.g. Orekit, Hipparchus, Highcharts, PyCharts, other engineering libraries)
- Experience using simulation software: STK, ODTK, MATLAB/SIMULINK is an asset
- Familiar with Spacecraft Subsystems and Satellite Operations is considered a strong asset
- Knowledge in Space Situational Awareness (e.g. conjunction analysis, rendezvous & proximity operations, space weather, access-time analysis, photometry, radiometry) is considered a strong asset
- Knowledge in Celestial Mechanics, Orbital/Attitude Kinematics and Dynamics, Orbit Determination and Estimation, Space Mission Analysis and Design, Frame/Coordinate Transformations is considered a strong asset
- Excellent technical documentation and presentation skills in English
The selected candidate must be self-motivated and highly organized and have very good personal and interpersonal skills with emphasis on learning new concepts, analytical thinking & problem solving, communication and teamwork, and technical documentation.
