Overview
Islington United Church (“IUC”) is searching for an Accountant, reporting to the Executive Director and the Treasurer. The individual must have a strong alignment with the Vision and Values of the United Church of Canada and balance their role as a part-time team member, open and accountable to the other staff members and visible and open to the congregation, on a limited basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Bookeeping: invoicing, donations, accounts payable (DEXT & manual entry, payment by EFT), banking, semi-monthly payroll (submissions and payroll accounting), monthly bank and VISA reconciliations, maintenance of clean general ledgers, customer and vendor accounts.
- Database management: Data entry of donations and cash in-flows, reporting and analysis in Servant Keeper and reconciliation to Quick Books.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare, examine, analyze against budget, and distribute monthly reporting package (income statement by class). On a quarterly basis, prepare a forecast to year end.
- Cash Flow: Ensure adequate cashflow for monthly transactions and segregation of Trust funds from Operating funds.
- Tax Compliance: monthly payroll remittances, semi-annual HST rebates, and assistance with year-end tax returns, donation receipting, T4 & T4A’s and United Church statistics report
- Year-end: Assistance with annual audit requirements and attending work of the auditors. Assistance with annual budgeting.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Completed or pursuing post-secondary education, with some specializing in Accounting, Finance, preferably working towards accounting degree / designation / certificate
- Work Experience: 2 to 5 years of work-related experience, familiar with not-for-profit fund accounting
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Excel, Word, SharePoint and experience using an enterprise system (IUC uses Servant Keeper Data base for revenue tracking, reporting and donation receipting)
- Analytical Abilities: High and consistent attention to detail for accuracy, ability to work smart, utilizing resources and technology efficiently & effectively, strong mathematical & financial skills, strong interpersonal skills, good time management, planning and prioritizing workflow to meet deadlines.
Pay: $40.00-$50.00 per hour
